Ed Labate currently is the owner/operator of LabateChess.com, a chess book reseller. At one point in time, he was selling a $5,000 version of an book he claimed was signed by Bobby Fischer. Something looked "fishy" with the book, since it also had a date written below Fischer's signature. The date was in a different ink, and very different in style from the supposed Fischer autograph. Through some of my own contacts with Fischer and his associates, I looked into this, and found Fischer never dated anything that was signed by him.

For that reason, I spoke to him on the phone, and said I would not participate in the eBay auction. Labate grew irrational, and was extremely unbalanced.

You can see from the email he sent above, he claims he is "Italian" and his first instinct is to "hunt me down."

This went out to many chess players as well, such as Grandmaster Yasser Seirawan, and some International Masters, and a few others. I had no idea what was the source of his rage.

I thought maybe he just needed to "blow off some steam", so I let it go.
Labate's Slander on yet another eBay Auction
Ed Labate's Slander

Click on the image above to see the larger picture. Some time passed, and a friend sent me a link to an eBay auction Labate was running where he slandered my name in a libelous fashion. I contacted my attorney, he said to call the local police where Labate lives and to make a report. I was told in his small town in Alabama, his address, 22834 Shipley Hollow Road in Elkmont, was not under the local jurisdiction listed in the phone book. I was told to contact the Limestone County Sheriff at 256-232-0111 which I did do. I let them know of Labate's threatening email and his slanderous use of my name.

The sheriff visited Labate's property and told him to remove my name from his eBay auction. As you can see from the photo below, he did do this, but only minimally, and he still was sending out emails wherein my character was impugned with some elaborate lies of his.

More of Ed Labate's Slander

If you go to the link http://main.uschess.org/forums/viewtopic.php&f=24&t=6390 you will see something similar to the picture shown above. This link is to the discussion of an article researched by Grandmaster Larry Evans of the United States Chess Federation. Ed Labate decided to create the sign-on identity "anasassin" (which is "an assassin" where Labate spelled it incorrectly) so you can see he is "projecting" the image of some sort of Italian hit man. Labate is constantly trying to draw links from my refusal to purchase his book that Bobby Fischer did not "sign the date" on to this new article done by Larry Evans. As you can read, his posts were removed previously, because again, he continues to make threats and behave in a very bizarre fashion.

Labate is still trying to impugn my character because I did not buy a book he was selling that I did not want to buy.

For this reason, I must request that the domain of LabateChess.com be taken offline as charges are filed against Ed Labate.
Take LabateChess.com Offline
Because of his bizarre behavior, the police reports I had to file, his eBay auction that I had him modify, his posts that were deleted by the administrators of the United State Chess Federation, his continual slandering of my name, and his false implications that he continues to make, I must request that the domain of LabateChess.com be taken down until he stops his nonsense.
